ARE YOU READY?

Last fall I was on the Atlantic coast in Florida when a hurricane warning was given. The weather was beautiful and the sunset that day was gorgeous. Yet the forecast showed a storm would hit land in the next 24 hours.

Well do I remember in my childhood how hurricanes hit with little warning and took many lives. Thankfully, in this age there are all kinds of tools, such as radar and satellites and computers, that can track a storm and predict its outcome.

In this case there were still unknowns as to how the storm wouldl be directed after it went back out into warm ocean waters and returned to shore. The forecasts showed various possibilities of the path the storm would take and the force it would carry. Predictions varied from tropical storm to hurricane one or stronger.

All the media warned people to be prepared. The basics of being ready mean getting on hand drinking water, batteries, cash, and a full tank of gas in the car. Late in the day I decided to head home well inland before the storm came ashore the next day.

Just as it is important to be physically prepared for emergencies, how much more so, must I follow warnings about my eternal safety and security. Unfortunately, there will come a day when, “I Wish We’d All Been Ready.”
